Schooner

The schooner is a type of sailboat characterized by the presence of at least two masts.

There are also schooners with three or four masts and old-fashioned rigging, which can still be found on large workboats or school boats, for example.

More commonly today, schooner sailboats are boats whose foremast, placed forward of the mainmast, is shorter or of equal size. Schooners are elegant, well-balanced and generally good sailors,

Schooner rigs were widely used in North America, in the USA and Canada. It was commonly used on workboats and fishing vessels. The America Cup owes its name to the famous schooner América, built on the model of the New York pilot schooners.
