In 1957, Henri Jeanneau, an aviation and motorcycle enthusiast, discovered motorboating when he saw a boat pass under his window...
Immediately, in his father's hardware store in Les Herbiers, Vendée, he built a wooden hull with which he took part in the “6 heures de Paris”, the biggest national motorboat race of the time.
He tacked a buoy in the lead!
This first result strengthened his enthusiasm, and he decided to make boating his profession...
In 1959, he hired apprentice boat builders for his company “le Hall Nautique de l'Ouest”, which later became Jeanneau Boatbuilding.
The Jeanneau shipyard is one of France's leading pleasure boat builders, renowned for its high-quality sailboats and motorboats.
Since its takeover in 1995, Jeanneau has been part of the Beneteau group.
