Sigma Yachts
The Sigma Yachts story began in the mid-1970s, when yacht designer David Thomas submitted a 10-meter project to the Offshore One Design Council.
Although the model didn't make the shortlist, it was a great commercial and sporting success.
David Thomas, convinced he had a winning project, teamed up with experienced sailor and marine expert David Hopkins, and submitted the project to Marine Projects in Plymouth, manufacturer of Moody Yachts.
Marin Projects agreed, and together they began planning the launch of a sufficient number of identical One Design yachts - under a new Marine Projects subsidiary called Sigma Yachts. And so, in 1978, the Sigma 33 was launched.
Other models followed, including the Sigma 38 and Sigma 41.
Production of these yachts ceased in the early 1990s, following Sigma's merger with Moody in 1988.
