Ballasted keelboat
A ballasted centerboarder is a sailboat fitted with a lifting centerboard. The weight of the ballast is generally located in a small fixed keel, in which the centerboard pivots, allowing the boat to have a shallow draft on the upper centerboard, while retaining the possibility of a very deep draft on the lower centerboard, an important stability factor that enhances upwind performance.
Ballasted dinghies are often cruising or voyaging yachts, allowing access to very shallow anchorages.
