Boat inspection

Why Get a Boat Inspection?

A boat inspection is an essential step when purchasing a used boat. It provides you with security, transparency, and peace of mind throughout the process.

A Solid Financial Guarantee

Above all, a boat inspection serves as protection for the buyer. It allows you to verify the boat’s overall condition and identify any potential defects or hidden flaws.

If a major issue is discovered, it gives you the option to recover your full deposit and safeguard your investment.

An Insurance Requirement

Most insurance companies require a marine survey when issuing a policy.

This document allows them to accurately assess the condition of the boat and mitigate risks, while ensuring you receive appropriate coverage.

A thorough understanding of your boat

Consulting a certified marine surveyor will help you better understand the technical specifications of your future boat.

Their assessment will also provide you with valuable recommendations regarding:

  • Any work that may be required
  • The priority level of such work
  • The expected timeline

A worry-free purchase

With our expertise, you can make an informed decision.

This allows you to move forward with your project with confidence, fully assured of the condition and value of your future boat.

If the Purchase does not go through

A purchase agreement may be canceled under certain specific circumstances:

  • Denial of financing by the bank
  • A major defect discovered during the inspection that renders the boat unseaworthy

In these situations, the sale is canceled and you will receive a full refund of your 10% deposit.

Satisfaction of Conditions Precedent

Conditions precedent must be satisfied no later than the date specified in the letter of intent.

Once the inspection has been completed and all conditions have been met (financing, compliance of the boat, etc.), the purchase can be finalized.

Good to know

  • The buyer is responsible for the cost of the inspection
  • You should also budget for the cost of hauling the boat out of the water
  • The inspection can take place with or without you present
